At Indupark Center Dortmund, KM Dachbau is refurbishing approximately 28,000 m² of retail roof with the objective of creating sufficient structural capacity for a future PV installation. The permanent weight of the roof build-up therefore became a central part of the refurbishment strategy.
The project uses PIR insulation together with AllShield BarrierSheet as part of a lightweight replacement roof build-up. By reducing the permanent load of the roof construction, structural capacity can be released for the additional weight associated with the future PV system.
AllShield BarrierSheet contributes only approximately 3 kg/m² while adding an A1 non-combustible protective layer beneath the waterproofing membrane. This allows fire protection and structural load to be addressed within the same roof-design decision.
On a 28,000 m² roof, even relatively small differences in weight per square metre have a major effect on total permanent roof load. The Indupark project therefore demonstrates why roof construction, fire protection and PV capacity should be considered as one system rather than as separate decisions.
The solution with BarrierSheets enables us to reduce the weight of the roof so we can add PV!
